Form Factors

The form factors refers to the general layout of your case. This involves the position of the slots in the back of your case and how the different elements fit in your case. The three most important factors you should consider when matching the form factor are the case, the power supply, and the motherboard. Usually, there are cases that come with a power supply, and in that case, you won’t need to worry about fitting your power supply. However, there are times when cases don’t come with their own power supply, so it’s always best to know the specifications and dimensions of your hardware.

The Baby AT, ATX, and NLX are the most popular form factors nowadays. The recently-developed micro ATX/SFX are also gaining popularity. It is important to note that Baby ATs are now considered obsolete, but due to their popularity, their form factors are still taken into consideration during upgrades and repairs.

Because their shapes and sizes differ, these cases cannot be interchanged. They also require specific motherboards.

The mid-tower case is the most popular case for PCs today.
