Other types of mouse

Trackballs

These devices differ from mice in that the ball is not underneath it. Instead, the ball is on top of the device, and is moved around to move the cursor. This type is ideal for people who have limited wrist movement, as well as for those who do not have enough space for mice to move around in.

Track Pad

These are commonly found on laptop computers, and is usually a small square near the bottom of the keyboard. That square pad detects your finger when you touch it, and your finger movements are tracked by the computer, which then moves the cursor or the pointer on the screen. There are track pads that may be used with normal computers.

Graphics Tablets

This type is often used by artists and other visual professionals. This tablet operates similarly with the track pad, but instead of your finger, the graphics tablet usually comes with a stylus or pen that you can navigate through the tablet or board.

Ergonomic Mice

Efforts to make mouse use more comfortable are being developed today. Ergonomic mice fit comfortably into the palm of your hand, making the use of a mouse more comfortable.

3D Controllers

This type of controllers are commonly used with CAD (Computer Aided Design) software. They function just like mice do, but instead of just two dimensions, they move in three dimensions.

Wheel Mouse

A wheel mouse is not actually a type of mouse, it is an additional accessory to a mouse. It is usually placed between the two buttons found in most mice, and they facilitate scrolling movement within a window.
