Choosing a Computer Monitor

Screen Flicker

Old monitors, especially CRTs, may give you this problem in the future. This factor is due to an aspect named “refresh rate.” To avoid screen flicker, which may cause headaches and eye strain, make sure that your monitor has a rate of 60Hz or higher.

This is where LCD monitors really lead, as they have completely gotten rid of this problem, as opposed to CRT monitors.

Size and Weight

It is quite apparent that LCD monitors have the advantage in this category, being flat screens and all. CRTs, on the other hand, are bulky and weigh quite a load, which might make moving your monitor quite a task. A thinner, flat panel monitor will also give you more desk space, perfect for those who do not have much space to spare.

The largest monitor available today is the 24-inch type. An LCD monitor of this dimension is too much, and may cost you a fortune. A CRT monitor of this size won’t be too much trouble price-wise, but will take up a lot of your desk space.

If you will only be using your computer to type documents or surf the Internet, a smaller, 15-inch type will do, but if your profession requires you to create or look at graphics, a larger monitor is required.
