About Screensavers

A simple description of screensavers is that it is a computer program
that blanks the screen or fills the screen with images or moving
patterns with the purpose of conserving the quality of the computer
displays, such as computer monitors.

Screensavers prevent screen damage that is caused by burn-in.
Burn-in occurs when still images are being displayed for a long
period of time. Areas where still images are displayed soon
become gray areas and could later on permanently damage the
monitor. Screensavers are often prompted to appear when there
is inactivity; this happens when the keyboard is not pressed
or the mouse is not moved for a period of time. Users are
allowed to setup the time of inactivity before the screensaver will automatically appear.
